Lines and wrinkles are common signs of aging that can be a source of concern for many individuals. As we age, the natural production of collagen and elastin in the skin decreases, contributing to the development of fine lines and wrinkles.

Factors such as sun exposure, smoking, and repetitive facial expressions can also accelerate the formation of lines and wrinkles.

FROWN lines

Frown lines, also known as glabella lines, or “11” lines, are the vertical wrinkles that appear between the eyebrows. The depth of these lines is typically influenced by the strength of the underlying muscles.

The frontalis muscle is located in the forehead and is responsible for raising the eyebrows and creating horizontal lines on the forehead. When this muscle contracts, it can contribute to the formation of frown lines by pulling the eyebrows downward.

The corrugator supercilii muscle is a small facial muscle located between the eyebrows. This muscle contracts when a person frowns, causing the brows to come together and creating vertical frown lines.

FOREHEAD lines

Forehead lines, vertical furrows across the forehead, are caused by the frontalis muscle. As the eyebrows are raised, this muscle contracts to cause wrinkles above the brow.

The frontalis muscle is a broad muscle located in the forehead. Its primary function is to raise the eyebrows and create forehead wrinkles during facial expressions such as surprise or curiosity. Repetitive contraction of this muscle over time can contribute to the formation of horizontal lines on the forehead.

CROWS feet

Wrinkles around the eyes, also known as crow’s feet or ‘smile lines’, are one of the first signs of ageing, often being the first wrinkles to appear. With the ageing process, the body stops the production of collagen and elastin, thus repetitive facial expressions such as laughing and squinting can become a source of fine lines and wrinkles.

Additionally, the skin surrounding our eyes produces less oil than the rest of our skin, therefore it is more susceptible to becoming dry and thin. Other causes include smoking, poor skin care, sun exposure, and genetics.
