Skin hydration

TREATMENTS

Well-hydrated skin looks fresher, smoother and healthier, but when dehydration sets in, skin can feel tight, look dull and show fine lines more readily. If your skin is lacking moisture despite a good routine at home, it's worth understanding why, and there are professional options that may help.

What skin hydration may help with

Hydration treatments are often considered as part of a plan for the following concerns. Click through to learn more about each.

skin quality

Dull, tight or dehydrated skin that's lost its glow.

dullness

A flat, lacklustre complexion that lacks radiance.

fine lines

Fine surface lines that look worse when the skin is dehydrated

under-eye

Crepey, thin skin beneath the eyes that shows dehydration first.

Why hydration is harder than it looks

Skin hydration depends on the skin barrier, the outer layer that holds water in. When it's compromised by harsh cleansers, over-exfoliation, sun, dry air or ageing, water escapes faster than the skin can replace it, and moisturiser alone can't keep up.

Dehydration is also easy to misread. It's not the same as dry skin - dehydrated skin lacks water, not oil, so even oily skin can be dehydrated. Signs include tightness after cleansing, dullness, and fine lines that look worse by the end of the day.

Because the causes vary, a hydration plan starts with working out what's actually going on, sometimes that's a skincare change, sometimes professional treatment, often both.

What to expect at your consultation

A hydration consultation begins with assessing your skin's barrier, hydration and texture, and understanding your current routine, climate and lifestyle, the things most often behind dehydrated skin. Your nurse will take a full medical history and talk through what's contributing in your case.

From there, we'll create a personalised plan that may include skincare adjustments, professional treatment, or both.

Under Australian advertising guidelines (TGA), we're unable to discuss specific treatments on our website, so options and costs are always discussed in person.

Note: All cosmetic procedures carry risks, and results vary between individuals.

Frequently asked questions

What's the difference between dry and dehydrated skin?

+

Dry skin is a skin type that produces less oil. Dehydrated skin lacks water and can affect any skin type, including oily skin. They need different approaches, and many people have both.

Why is my skin still dehydrated when I moisturise?

+

Often because the skin barrier is compromised, so water escapes faster than moisturiser can replace it. Climate, harsh products, over-exfoliation and lifestyle all play a part. A consultation looks at the cause rather than just the symptom.

Who suits skin hydration treatments?

+

Anyone whose skin is feeling dry, tight or dull, or who wants to support skin quality generally. Your nurse will assess your skin and confirm suitability at your consultation.

Is skincare enough on its own?

+

For many people, the right skincare and habits make a real difference. Professional treatment is considered when skincare alone isn't achieving what you'd like. Which applies to you is discussed at your consultation.

How long do results last?

+

This varies by treatment and individual. Your nurse will discuss what to expect at your consultation.

Is there downtime?

+

This depends on the treatment. Your nurse will explain what to expect for any option discussed.

Does W.D.I Clinic offer this near me?
